Bangor Academy and Grammar Careers Fairs 2026

Last week the Ards Business Hub team had the privilege of attending the Bangor Academy and Bangor Grammar School careers fairs. These two outstanding events are dedicated to helping students explore future career pathways and make informed choices about their next steps.
Both schools have a well-deserved reputation for delivering excellent careers support to their pupils, so we were delighted to be invited along. At Ards Business Hub we take every opportunity to show young people that self-employment and business ownership are not just viable career options – they are thriving pathways right here in Northern Ireland.

“There has never been a better time for young people in Northern Ireland to consider self-employment. We have a strong entrepreneurial ecosystem, accessible support networks, and real opportunities to build sustainable businesses locally.” – Nichola Lockhart, Chief Executive

During our time at both fairs, we spoke with dozens of pupils about the realities and opportunities of running your own business. From answering questions about where to start, to pointing them towards practical tools, we were delighted by the engagement and curiosity we encountered. It was clear that many young people are thinking seriously about what comes after school.

We also had the opportunity to highlight our Student Hub, Ards Business Hub’s dedicated online resource designed to support students with step-by-step guidance, tools and links to help them explore business ownership. Many of the resources our business support team utilise for delivering the Go Succeed program can be found here, so we highlight encourage anyone interested to have a look.

“A big part of our message from this week is that there are clear, practical steps young people can take if they’re interested in starting their own business. Through our Student Hub and wider support services we offer, we can help them move from an idea to something tangible.” – Nicola Lynn, Business Support Coordinator

We left both careers fairs feeling energised and encouraged by the next generation’s talent and ambition. If you’re a student, parent, or teacher who wants to learn more about starting your own business, don’t forget to visit our Student Hub – it’s full of valuable resources and support to get you started. Thank you again to the faculty at both Bangor Academy and Bangor Grammar for inviting us along to an engaging and inspiring event.

Rethinking Social Media for Your Business

Social media, for all its complexity, is not really about algorithms or posting schedules or finding the perfect hashtag. At its core, it has always been about connection. And the businesses that understand this – truly understand it, not just as a nice idea but as an operational principle – are the ones that build communities, not just follower counts.
