Ards Business Hub Marks World Environment Day
World Environment Day 2026 focuses on climate change and the importance of taking practical action to reduce environmental impact. Led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), this year’s campaign highlights the urgent need for organisations, communities and individuals to support sustainable practices and accelerate the transition to cleaner energy sources.
At Ards Business Hub, sustainability remains an important part of our long-term commitment to responsible business operations and community leadership. As part of these efforts, solar panel systems were installed at both Strangford Park and Sketrick House in January 2024.
Since installation, the systems have already delivered measurable environmental benefits:
- Reduction of 71.68 tonnes of CO₂ emissions
- Carbon offset comparable to planting 40 trees
- Replacement of approximately 28.76 tonnes of coal that would otherwise have been required to generate the same amount of energy.
These figures demonstrate the positive impact renewable energy initiatives can have at a local level. By generating clean electricity on-site, the solar installations help reduce reliance on traditional fossil fuel energy sources while supporting more sustainable operational practices across both locations.
The investment forms part of Ards Business Hub’s wider approach to environmental responsibility and future-focused infrastructure. Alongside reducing emissions, renewable energy initiatives can also contribute to long-term energy efficiency, operational resilience and increased awareness of sustainable business practices within the local community.

World Environment Day provides an opportunity for organisations across all sectors to review how they can contribute to climate action through practical and measurable steps. While large-scale global change requires coordinated action, local initiatives remain an important part of reducing overall environmental impact.
Ards Business Hub will continue to explore opportunities to improve sustainability across its operations and support initiatives that contribute positively to the environment and the wider community
