Eterna Cards, Nathan Bell

From Childhood Passion to Thriving Business: The Story of Eterna Cards

In the heart of Strangford Park, one small business is bringing big joy to collectors across the UK. Eterna Cards, founded by Nathan Bell, is more than just an online trading card store, it’s a business built on passion, nostalgia, and community.

A Lifelong Love for Cards and Creativity

Nathan grew up in Belfast and recently relocated to Ards and North Down with his partner, who’s been one of his biggest supporters in his business journey. From a young age, Nathan showed an entrepreneurial spark, building fun, quirky websites at just 12 years old. “They weren’t any good,” he laughed, “but I just loved making things.”

His early professional years were spent in the game design industry, working his way up to Online Marketing Director. As the company grew through acquisitions, the culture changed. “It just wasn’t enjoyable anymore. It became too corporate, and I knew I wanted something different.”

Re-discovering a Childhood Favourite

In 2019, a nostalgic impulse sparked a new chapter. Nathan bought a pack of Pokémon cards, something he loved as a child, and was stunned to find one card worth £150. “I listed it on eBay as a test, and it sold. That was the moment I realised there was something there.”

Drawn in by the excitement of collecting and the growing online community, Nathan started buying and re-selling more cards. The joy, the art, and the stories behind each product pulled him in. “I found myself completely addicted to it, but in the best way. It reminded me of why I loved these cards as a kid.”

The Beginning of Eterna Cards

With his background in marketing and experience starting small ventures, Nathan officially launched Eterna Cards. The name was inspired by the Pokémon universe, with a nod to the fictional city of Eterna. His new website soon followed, offering everything from booster boxes and elite trainer boxes to Japanese packs and curated bundles.

The business filled a gap in the UK market. “In the US, card distribution is huge, but here, there wasn’t much. I wanted to change that.” Eterna Cards quickly gained a loyal customer base, largely aged 25–34, who appreciate the fun, artistry, and investment value of the cards.

“Some of these cards increase in value every year. It’s amazing to see people’s collections grow and know I’ve played a part in that.”

Finding the Right Space to Grow

Moving into an office at Strangford Park was a turning point. “Honestly, it’s been unbelievable. I really needed the space, and it’s been instrumental for the growth of the business.”

More than just physical room, it’s been a fresh start for Nathan. “My previous job had taken a toll on my mental health. Running my own business, doing something I love, and having a base in Strangford Park at Ards Business Hub, has completely changed things around.”

Looking Ahead

As Eterna Cards continues to thrive, Nathan remains driven by the excitement of the hobby, the support of his community, and the joy of helping others reconnect with something they love. “It’s not just a business; it’s something I genuinely enjoy every day.”
