JSW Developments, founded in 2012 by Killinchy man Josh Wilson, continues to thrive as a specialist construction company focused on private healthcare projects. Since moving into Ards Business Hub in 2020, the business has grown steadily, now operating from its main office in Newtownards, Northern Ireland and a second office in Stockton-on-Tees, England, reflecting its strong presence across the UK.
Business Growth
In 2024, JSW Developments reached several key milestones. The company added two new vehicles to its fleet, bringing the total to eight, and hired a Business Development Manager to focus on expanding operations in Northern Ireland and supporting continued growth in England.
Josh shared, “Hiring a Business Development Manager has been a game-changer for us. It’s allowed us to be more proactive in reaching out to new clients, particularly in Northern Ireland, while strengthening our relationships on the mainland.”
The company has also made significant strides with its sister brand, JSW Flooring Solutions, focusing on growing its client base in hygienic floor and wall coverings. Additionally, the team has begun tendering for public sector contracts, opening up new opportunities beyond their traditional private healthcare focus.
Meeting Industry Needs
JSW’s reputation for excellence has not gone unnoticed. While many clients now approach the company directly, the team still finds that businesses often lack awareness of the specialised requirements in healthcare construction.
“A lot of clients don’t realise the difference between standard construction and the specific options available for healthcare settings, like anti-tamper fittings, anti-pick mastics etc,” said Josh.
Overcoming Challenges
The rising cost of materials was a major hurdle in 2023, slowing progress for some clients. However, JSW overcame this by diversifying and expanding its client base.
“The price rises were tough, but it pushed us to grow and look for new opportunities. We came out stronger on the other side,” Josh reflected.
Lessons Learned
Josh has gained valuable insights from running his business. “The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to document everything – every issue, every agreement. Policies and procedures are essential to protect the business and ensure we operate smoothly,” he said.
Strategic Restructuring
The company’s growth has allowed Josh to restructure the organisation, enabling him to focus on strategy and growth.
“I’m still very hands-on, but the long-term goal has always been to work on the business rather than in it. Eventually, I’d like to step back and spend more time with my family, but for now, I’m enjoying the journey,” Josh shared.
Office Transformation
This year, the team completed a full refurbishment of their office in Ards Business Hub to accommodate growth.
“The office makeover was much needed, we drafted in friends and family to help on evenings and weekends meaning the office could remain fully operational through the day,” said Josh.
Future Plans
Looking ahead, JSW Developments plans to expand into facilities management, targeting the healthcare sector.
“We see a real opportunity in facilities management. Whether we acquire a small FM company or start from scratch is still to be decided, but it’s an avenue we want to explore,” Josh explained.

“The flexibility we’ve had to refurbish our office was fantastic. The meeting spaces, free parking, and sense of community here are second to none,” he said. “We also love the Hub’s online presence – it’s great to see tenants and events being highlighted. The Annual Tenant BBQ and workshops create a real sense of community, which we value highly.”
